Fall colors

We went to the cabin this weekend and this is what we encountered.











I went to pick up Jason and Natalie after a hike to the Farmington towers, I did not know I was going to go four wheeling. After 30 minutes of dirt road going 20 miles an hour, eating every 4 wheelers dust I finally found them.

Kyle is my Star Scout

Kyle had a court of honor on Wednesday September 24th. He has now been advanced to the rank of star. He received 10 merit badges also. He has earned all of the merit badges for his rank for Life. All he has to do is wait his time.

Picnic in the park

Emily, Glade and I took the girls to the park for a picnic the last week of August.




Maddie had a great time on the slide!



She found a friend to play tether ball with her.



Grandpa pushed both girls and others who wanted to ride the swing.



Ashlyn and Grandpa went on a boat ride together.




Its a good thing they came back for lunch!!!

A great ending to a busy day is to sit with sisters and eat cookies together.

We knew when we purchased the cabin that it had unwanted visitors, however we did not completely know what we had. We have been working hard to exterminate the rodents, squirrels, and oh yes the bats.

Glade and Kyle could hear scratching around. They got this great idea to bang on the ceiling of the basement. Their theory was to scare what ever it was they could hear. Much to their surprise they found there were two squirrels. They scared one out and had to set a trap for the other. I an not sad to report the demise of Sammy squirrel.

That same day Kyle could hear a high pitch noise. He kept looking and looking to see where it was coming from. Well he found what was making the noise. There are bats in the top pitches of the roof.

The bat!!!!!

Before the bat exterminator made his appearance the wildlife decided to visit. These guys can come around anytime they want as long as they stay outside. Cool huh!!!

After several trips and long time researching the best way to get rid of these pests. Glade dons the outfit below and climbs a ladder to get one out of it's happy home. He was successful in getting rid of one. He climbed the ladder and rigged another on the roof so that he could get to the bats hideouts. He blocked the holes with screen and sealed up other openings hopefully he has discouraged re-entry.

A family tradition 2008

The Parkin family and the Harker family have made a family tradition of camping in Jackson Hole for the last 15 plus years. Part of the camping includes white water rafting down the snake river. Years past have proven this to be a hairy trip with Glade's mother breaking her ankle, teeth being knocked out with the oars, not to mention the numerous times people are dumped out of the raft. I have made this trip for two years in the three I have been with Glade. This trip will stand out in my mind for quite some time. We went the second week of July. The water was running extremely high. There were rapids that had not been seen for a looooong time per everyone in the raft. There are two major rapids Big Kahuna and Lunch Counter. Since the water was high Big Kahuna was easy to roll over. Lunch Counter was another story. We hit this rapid sideways and as you can see in one of the pictures we were covered with a wall of water. There were 7 people in the raft as we entered and only 5 when we got through it. Christine and Ryan had fallen out. We all lived to tell this story.

Summer Fun

This summer Kyle attended U of U camps that taught him about bugs and creepy crawly things, clamation, and robotics. He attended a week long summer camp at YMCA Camp Rogers. Here he had to survive as a team with other boys in the wilderness for three days. When he got home his first priorities were to take a shower and sleep. He told me that he had a blast but to never sign him up for that again.

He went to scout camp in August. There he earned numerous merit badges and completed the requirements to be the rank of Star. He is now waiting his time for him to get to the rank of Life. Between all of the activities listed above we went on two family vacations. Now he is enjoying the 8th grade.

I do not lie...

Are these the cutest grandchildren in the world? I am a little predujice. From left to right Ashlyn, Aiden, Bottom front Maddie. They are the prides and joys of our hearts.

The Cabin

My sweet husband has been wanting a cabin for a long time. We have been searching for the perfect one. We found it! It is located in the best name for a city Christmas Meadows.
